Women's Basketball Falls Short Against CSI

BOX SCORE

NEW YORK, NY – The Hunter women's basketball team comeback fell short in the final minutes as they suffered a 58-54 loss to the College of Staten Island. The loss drops the Hawks to 6-12 overall and 3-6 in CUNYAC play.

The Hawks and Dolphins battled in the first half as the Hawks shot 66% from the field. With 5:08 left in the half, the Hawks trailed 24-16 but would cut the lead to 28-26 at halftime.

Joey Chan scored 12 of her game-high 21 points in the first half to lead the Hawks comeback from a six point deficit.

The Hawks tied the game at 28 less than a minute into the second half. The Dolphins responded by going on a 7-2 run to take a 37-30 lead with just under 16 minutes remaining.

The Hawks could never take the lead away from the Dolphins in the second half as they tied the score twice. Trailing by seven with 5:37 left, the Hawks would come back to within one thanks to four points by Lucia Stosic to make the score 49-48.

Chan would hit a jumper with 1:46 left to cut the CSI lead to 53-52 but that would be the closest the Hawks would get, with the Dolphins holding on for a 58-54 win.

Chan scored 21 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field and 9-of-12 from the free throw line. Kristen Markoe recorded her 12th double-double of the season tallying 14 points and 16 rebounds.

The Hawks return to action Friday January 23 when they will take on Baruch College at 5:30pm.
