Women's Volleyball takes Two in Pennsylvania

The Hawks swept both of their opponents.

BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2 Abington, PA - The women's volleyball team had two games this past Saturday; one against Penn State - Abington and the other against Penn State - Harrisburg. The Purple and Gold prevailed in each, winning handily by scores of 3-0 and 3-0. The two wins bolster Hunter's overall record to 11-9 while they remain at 4-0 in CUNYAC play.

PSU-Abington (25-16, 25-15, 26-24)

The Hawk's came out swinging from the start, posting 13 kills a piece in the first two sets while their defense was on point as well, holding the hosts to just 19 total kills.

Julia connolly posted a game high 14 kills to go along with an impressive .357 hitting percentage while Paola Martinez chipped in with eight kills of her own and posted an impressive .462 hitting percentage. Miranda Hogan also posted a game high 29 assists while Haley Trunkett chalked up 17 digs.

The Hawks took the lead from the get-go and never looked back. They dominated the first set and then used a 6-0 run in the second to distance themselves from PSU-Abington to go up 2-0. They were contested in the third after letting a 23-18 advantage turn into a tie game at 24 all. However, they regrouped and rattled off the final three points to come away with win number one on the day.

PSU-Harrisburg (25-11, 25-13, 26-24)

Connolly once again led the Hawk attack with a game high 11 kills and .444 hitting percentage. Hogan followed suit with a game high of her own with 29 assists.  Taylor Kerr-Haiduk led the defense with 15 digs while trunkett posted 12 of her own. The Hawks out-hit PSU-Harrisburg, 41-21 and recorded a team hitting percentage of .283.

Connolly accounted for six straight service aces as part of the Hawk's 11-0 run to start the first set. Their offense was no match for PSU-Harrisburg as they held the Pennsylvania based squad to just 11 points in the first set. in the second, it was a more evenly balanced game at 11-11, but the Purple and Gold went on a 14-2 run to close out the second, going up 2-0. Like their previous match, they were contested in the third, and down 23-24 in the latter stages, but two consecutive kills by Connolly set up match point in which Breanna Banske hammered home the final point.

The Hawks are back in action when they compete in the CUNYAC multi-match on Monday, October 12 where they face Lehman at 11am and Baruch at 1pm.
