Staten Island, NY - Hunter College women's volleyball handed College of Staten Island a loss on Tuesday evening, winning in three sets with scores of 25-12, 25-13 and 25-16.
Hunter took the early lead in the first set, going on a 12-2 run to make the score 12-4. Hunter continued to dominate, allowing the Dolphins to score just eight more times in the set as the Hawks took the first, 25-12.
The Hawks started the second set strong, jumping out to a 10-4 lead. The Dolphins would find a kill but then the Hawks went on an 8-1 run for a 16-5 lead. The Hawks scored the last two points of the set, easily taking the second with a score of 25-13 for a 2-0 lead in the match.
The third set was the closest of the match as CSI took the first lead. Hunter was able to tie the score and pull ahead, but the Dolphins did not go away, never falling behind by more than four points. The Hawks finally went on a run for a substantial lead with a score of 21-9, but the Dolphins finished the set with four points of their own but it would be too little too late as Hunter took the third set, 25-16 and won the match, 3-0.
Samantha Barrett and
Julia Connolly led the team on offense with nine kills each.
Taylor Kerr-Haiduk followed with eight kills and led the team defensively with nine digs in the victory.
The Hawks return to action on Saturday, Oct. 31 when they play Fairleight Dickinson-Floram and Susquehanna in a tri-match tournament hosted at the Hunter Sportsplex.
