Galloway, NJ - The women's volleyball team competed in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday against Christopher Newport University. The Hawks fell in straight sets, 25-14, 25-17, 25-21 to the Captains which concludes their outstanding 2015 campaign at a final record of 23-14.

Samantha Barrett and Taylor Haiduk-Kerr led the offensive attack with seven kills apiece while all eight girls had at least one kill credited to them. Mirando Hogan tallied 18 assists in her setting duties while Haley Trunkett registered eight digs on the back line to lead the Hawks.

The first two sets panned out in similar fashion with the Hawks going toe-to-toe with their opponents. However, they faltered in the middle of each set while CNU managed to slowly grow a three point lead into a cushion of more than six down the road and take 25-14 and 25-17 wins heading into the third and what would eventually be the final set. There, with nothing to lose, the Purple and Gold showed some grit and bounced back from a set opening 4-0 deficit to make it a 9-9 affair. Five straight CNU points put the Hawks back in a five-point hole, but once again, they clawed their way back to make it a one point game at 16-15. Pulling even at 19 all, an error on a set from CNU's Ashley Rock made it a 23-21 game in favor of the Captains. However, two straight points put the nail in the coffin as CNU came away with their third and final win, 25-21.

The Hawks conclude their season with a 23-14 overall record, 7-1 CUNYAC mark, successfully defended their CUNYAC Tournament Title and for the second straight time, made an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
