New York, NY - Hunter College men's basketball fell in its home opener on Tuesday night to Rutgers-Newark with a score of 81-60.
The score remained close through the first half as both teams struggled to make baskets. With the score tied at 20 at the 8:58 minute mark, the Scarlet Raiders would go on a 10-0 run, but the Hawks were able to even the score at 34, recording a 10-2 run of their own.
The Scarlet Raiders ended the half with a layup to lead the Hawks 36-34 at halftime.
Rutgers-Newark opened up the second half with a 10-0 run before Hunter's
Dan Shulman hit a shot from behind the arc with 15:38 to play. The Hawks came within seven points before the Scarlet Raiders took off again, scoring nine-straight points for a 57-41 lead.
Hunter's defense was unable to stop Rutgers-Newark as the Scarlet Raiders took the game, 81-60.
Marcus Ashamole led the Hawks with 12 points, while
Gerard Carty followed with ten. The team was 22-54 from the floor for a 40.7 shooting percentage.
The Hawks return to action when they host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps College on Saturday at 5 p.m.
