New York, NY - Hunter College women's basketball got a win against Mount Saint Mary College on Tuesday night with a score of 58-48.
The Hawks took the early 7-2 lead in the first quarter as
Widly Couloute and
Christine Patterson hit shots for the Hawks. Both teams struggled to find baskets over the next four minutes until Hunter's
Ashley Yu hit a three-pointer with two minutes to play. The Hawks led the Knights in the first quarter, 13-7.
Hunter quickly went up by ten points in the second quarter, but Mount Saint Mary would go on a run to trail by just two points with 1:57 left in the first half. The teams went to locker rooms at halftime with Hunter leading, 23-19.
Patterson and Couloute combined for seven points to begin the third quarter and help Hunter lead the Knights, 30-20. The Hawks then earned their largest lead of the game with a steal and fastbreak layup from Couloute to lead by 12 points at the end of the quarter.
The Knights went on a run to cut Hunter's lead to just seven points with six minutes to play, but the Hawks would respond with 6-0 run of their own. Mount Saint Mary notched the last points of the game, but Hunter pulled out the win with a score of 58-48.
Couloute led the Hawks with 16 points, while
Jade Aponte followed with 13. Yu rounded out the Hawks' double-digit scoring with ten points of her own.
Ayanna Hudson led the team in rebounding, recording 13 rebounds in the victory.
The Hawks return to action when they host the Hunter Tip-Off Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
