New York, NY - The men's basketball team fell to Baruch College by a score of 89-67 on Homecoming earlier this evening. Despite having 12 players score at least two points, the Hawks were unable to bounce back from a nine point first half deficit. With the loss, the Purple and Gold continue to search for their first win of the season as they drop to 0-8, 0-2 CUNYAC.
Brian Kruger led the way for Hunter with 12 points.
Robert Borusiewicz and
Manuel Cuadrado each chipped in eight points apiece while
Amer Lukac and
Vuyisile Beschta contributed seven points each. As a team, the squad out-rebounded Baruch, 38-35 but allowed the visitors to shoot 54% from the field while they were only able to manage connecting on 24 of 64 attempts from the floor.
The Bearcats opened up with a triple from Doyin Isaac and then followed with another three pointer from Ethan Hamlet.
Alex Mattina got the Hawks on the board with a lay in and
Matt Franks sunk a jumper to make it a two-point affair in the early stages of the first. However, the point differential grew to as much as 13 with 3:28 left to play in the first. Lukac stopped the bleeding with a three-ball and then closed out the half on a successfully converted three-point play to make it a 49-40 game at the half.
The nine point deficit was as close as they would get throughout the rest of the game as the Hawks had no response for Baruch's hot shooting which included seven three-pointers. A 19-10 Bearcat run in the middle of the second set the Purple and Gold back by as much as 27 points with 2:37 left in the game; a deficit they were unable to recover from.
Hunter looks to secure their first win when they visit CCNY on Friday, December 11 at 7pm in a CUNYAC matchup.
