BOX SCORE NEW YORK, NY -The Hunter men's basketball team lost their third straight game with a 85-79 loss against Montclair State on Thursday night. The loss drops the Hawks to 8-16 overall.
The Hawks controlled the game early in the first half jumping out to an early 14-4 lead with just over five minutes gone by in the first half. The Red Hawks would chip away at the lead tying the game at 18-18 less than five minutes later. The Hawks would regain control at the end of the half thanks to the long range shooting of
Jerrell Antley and
Brian Kruger to take a 37-31 lead into halftime.,
The Red Hawks would score the first five points of the second half to cut the Hawks lead to 37-36 less than two minutes into it. The Hawks would respond going on a prolonged 21-10 run over the next seven minutes of the game to take a 60-48 lead with 11:22 left to go.,During the Hawks run, six different Hawks would contribute a basket.,
Over the next six plus minutes, the Red Hawks would begin to turn the Hawks over and would turn a 12 point deficit into a 70-68 lead with 5:13 remaining.,
Trailing by two with just over two minutes to go, the Hawks turned it over on back-to-back possessions turning a two point game into a six point game.
Kruger led the Hawks offense scoring 22 points and five assists on 6-of-9 shooting from 3-point land while Antley added 21 points off the bench.
Lester Anim added 11 points and eight rebounds. As a team the Hawks had 17 assists.
The Hawks return to action for their regular season finale and Senior Night when they host York College. Senior night festivities are scheduled to begin at 7pm.
