BOX SCORE NEW YORK, NY -The Hunter men's basketball team snapped a three game losing streak with an 80-75 victory over York College on Tuesday night in the team's regular season finale. The win puts the Hawks record at 9-16 overall and 6-10 in CUNYAC play.,
The Hawks and Cardinals played close during the opening half leading to a tie score on five different occasions. The Hawks began to pull away in the final five minutes of the half. With the score tied at 24, Hunter went on a 9-0 run in less than a minute to open up a 33-24 lead.
Brian Kruger was key to the run, hitting back-to-back three pointers forcing a Cardinal timeout.,
After the timeout
Lester Anim would would score to make it 35-24 Hawks with 2:46 left in the half. The Hawks would answer each of the Cardinals baskets in the closing minutes of the first half and would maintain an 11 point lead going into halftime.,
The Hawks continued to apply pressure early in the second half opening up a 14 point lead a little over two minutes into the half. The lead would swell to 15 points with 5:38 left in the game. The Cardinals would not go away as they continued to put pressure on the Hawks cutting the 15 point lead all the way down to five points, on two different occasions. During the final minute of play, the Hawks made 7-of-8 free throws to seal the victory.
Lester Anim and
Jerrell Antley led the Hawks offense tonight as they both scored 21 points. Anim would also add eight rebounds, while Antley added four assists.
Brian Kruger chipped in with 15 points. The Hawks shot almost 53% from three-point land.
The Hawks will enter the CUNYAC Tournament at the #6 seed, they will take on either Brooklyn College or Lehman College on Sunday afternoon. Check back tomorrow for time and location of the Hawks quarterfinal matchup.,
