BOX SCORE New York, NY - The women's basketball team hosted the Violets of NYU in a non-conference contest at the Sportsplex last night. The Hawks struggled offensively from the start and were unable to recover from a 10-point first quarter deficit, resulting in a 58-31 loss. In defeat, the Purple and Gold move to 6-8, 3-3 CUNYAC while the Violets remain unbeaten at 12-0.
Jade Aponte led Hunter with 12 points while
Widly Couloute chipped in with six points and was the team's high rebound getter with nine boards. Six other players scored at least two points while everyone on the team recorded at least a single rebound.
Despite holding their counterparts to under 36 percent shooting from the field, the Hawks contended with struggles of their own, making just five shots from the floor in 26 tries that included one from downtown. After the first, Hunter found themselves down by 10, but fell further into a hole and faced a 19 point deficit at the half.
Despite a better third and fourt quarter effort on both ends of the floor, it was not enough to climb out of the hole. Each team shot 27.3 percent from the field and while Hunter managed to score five more points compared to the first, and held NYU to five less points in the second half, it was just not enough to come within striking distance.
The squad looks to bounce back when they host Brooklyn College on Wednesday, January 13 at 5pm in the Sportsplex.
