New York, NY - Hunter College women's basketball dropped a game to CUNYAC opponent Brooklyn College on Thursday night with a score of 67-54. The Hawks are now 6-9 overall and 3-4 in conference play, while the Bulldogs remain undefeated (8-0) against league opponents.
Widly Couloute led the Hawks with 17 points and nine rebounds, while
Christine Patterson followed with 11 points of her own. The team shot 22-57 from the floor for a 38.7 shooting percentage, as the Bulldogs shot just 39.2 percent from the field in the game.
Hunter was the first to lead in the game, jumping out to a 4-0 lead before the Bulldogs came charging back, going on an 8-0 run. Couloute was able to tie the game at eight with a layup, but Brooklyn would have the edge at the end of the first quarter, 13-9.
Three quick points from Hunter at the beginning of the second quarter helped them trail by just one point until the Bulldogs went on another run, going 4-4 from the charity stripe and sinking a three-pointer for a five point lead at the 8:07 minute mark. The Hawks did not go away quietly, scoring the next seven points to take a two-point lead. The battle continued as Brooklyn led, 27-26 at halftime.
The Bulldogs came back from the break on fire, immediately hitting three shots from behind the arc. A three-pointer from
Jade Aponte with five minutes left in the quarter would put the Hawks back in the game, but by the end of the third quarter the Bulldogs had stretched their lead to 14 points.
Points from Patterson and Couloute in the fourth quarter helped Hunter trail by just eight points with 6:52 to play, but that is as close as the Hawks would get as Brooklyn continued to score, eventually taking the game 67-54.
The Hawks will return to action on Friday, Jan. 15 when they travel to Lehman College for a 5 p.m. conference game.
