BOX SCORE 3 Elmira, NY - Hunter College women's volleyball went 2-1 this weekend at the Elmira Tournament, picking up wins against Lycoming College and Elmira College before falling to SUNY Cortland.
The Hawks are now 16-10 overall and continue to be in first-place in the CUNYAC standings with a mark of 7-0.
Hunter 3, Lycoming 1
The Purple and Gold got a 3-1 win over Lycoming on Friday, defeating the Warriors in four with scores of 25-21, 27-25, 25-22 and 25-22.
The Hawks took the first set, but fell in the second with a close score of 27-25. The team bounced back to win the last two and start the tournament 1-0.
Four Hawks recorded 11 or more kills in the match but
Taylor Kerr-Haiduk led the charge with an outstanding 21 kills and 11 digs. The sophomore committed just three errors the entire match for a .346 hitting percentage.
Miranda Hogan and
Julia Connolly followed with 12 kills each while
Samantha Barrett added 11.
Haley Trunkett led the team on defense with 17 digs and
Breanna Banske recorded a team-high 47 assists.
Hunter 3, Elmira 1
Hunter fell in the first set with a score of 25-20 but once again showed their resilience by winning the next three sets (25-19, 25-22, 25-10) and taking the match, 3-1. Â
Connolly and Kerr-Haiduk led the team with 16 and 15 kills, respectively, while Banske added 40 assists. Defensively, Trunkett tallied a team-high 25 digs while Connolly and Hogan added 16 and 12.Â
SUNY Corland 3, Hunter 2
The Red Dragons earned the first two wins of the set (26-24, 25-19) but the Hawks came back strong, taking the next two with scores of 25-20 an 25-18 to send the match into a fifth set. The Purple and Gold eventually fell in close last set with a score of 15-8.
Connolly led with 18 kills, while Kerr-Haiduk and Barrett added 13 each. Connolly also led the Hawks on defense with 17 digs.
Hunter returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 18 when they travel to Montclair State.
