BOX SCORE New York, NY - Hunter College women's volleyball got a three-set win over College of Mount Saint Vincent on Tuesday night, defeating the Dolphins with scores of 25-21, 25-15 and 25-22.
The Hawks improve to 11-9 and remain 5-0 in conference play.
The beginning of the first set was a struggle for the Hawks as they fell behind by as much as four points for the majority of the set. Trailing 18-15, the Purple and Gold went on a run, scoring five-straight points to take a 20-18 lead.Â
Hunter was able to hold off the Dolphins to take the first, 25-21.
The Hawks continued to dominate into the second set, jumping out to a 6-0 lead. Mount Saint Vincent scored four-straight to get back into the match, but Hunter's
Samantha Barrett recorded three-straight kills to give the Hawks a 15-7 lead. It was too late to catch up for the Dolpins as Hunter took the second, 25-15 to lead the match, 2-0.
The third set would be the Dolphins time to get the early lead, capitalizing on Hunter errors to lead 8-2. From there the Hawks regrouped, suddenly going on a 9-0 run, featuring nine-straight serves from
Taylor Kerr-Haiduk, to take a three-point lead.Â
It looked as though the Purple and Gold would easily win the third when Mount Saint Vincent came back, trailing by just one point with the score at 22-21. Kills from Barrett and
Madelle Tabunda sealed the deal for the Hawks as they won the third, 25-22 and got the three-set victory.
Kerr-Haiduk had a balanced match, leading the team with 17 kills and 12 digs. Barrett followed with ten kills of her own, while
Breanna Banske recorded a team-high 34 assists.
The Hawks return to action on Friday when they take on NYU at 6 p.m.
