Poughkeepsie, NY – Hunter College women's fencing competed in the Vassar Invitational this past Saturday, posting seven losses.
The Hawks fell in matches to Sacred Heart University (5-23), University of Incarnate Word (11-16), Tufts University (7-20), Drew University (4-23), Wellesley College (4-23), Haverford College (7-20) and Yeshiva University (9-18).
Despite the losses, the Hawks posted several successful performances with
Lianne Doctor leading the way with 14 individual wins for the sabre team.
Doctor led the sabre team in the match again Incarnate Word as the Hawks got a 7-2 victory in the bout. The Purple and Gold also got a 6-3 victory in the sabre bout against Tufts as Doctor,
Jessica Chen,
Alexandra Van Zant and
Michelle Rangel all recorded victories. Hunter ended the day with a win in sabre against Yeshiva, dominating the Maccabees with a score of 8-1.
The epee team also had a close bout against Haverford with
Leslie Campbell and
Christina Fedorov guiding the Hawks to a 5-4 finish in the loss.
The Hawks return to action on Friday, December 2 when they host West Point during Hunter Homecoming.
