BOX SCORE Brooklyn, NY - Hunter College men's basketball opened conference play with a win over Brooklyn College on Tuesday night, defeating the Bulldogs with a score of 80-75.
The Hawks are now 3-2 this season and 1-0 in CUNYAC.
Hunter trailed for much of the first half, getting a one-point lead at the 16 minute mark off a three-pointer from
Amer Lukac, but Brooklyn quickly took over the game by going on an 8-1 run.Â
Back-to-back baskets from
Mamadou Sakho would keep the Purple and Gold in the game, but Brooklyn managed to lead by nine with eight minutes left in the half.Â
Another three-pointer from Sakho sparked a 15-5 run for the Hawks where they pulled ahead with two minutes to play in the half. Brooklyn finished it up with four-straight baskets to lead at halftime, 41-34.
Lukac led the Hawks at the half with nine points as the team shot an impressive 50.0 percent from the field.
Hunter dominated the beginning of the second half as Lukac and
Gio Gabbidon combined for seven points to tie up the score.
Blendi Ibraj added a three-pointer for the Hawks and Lukac hit another as Hunter led by three points at the 14:30 minute mark.
From there Hunter's
Danny Fusco went to work, hitting three-straight shots to make the score 54-49 for Hunter's biggest lead of the game thus far.Â
In the last 11 minutes of the game the Hawks were hard to stop, scoring a total of 26 points from five different players to win 80-75.
Lukac led the team with 17 points, while Ibraj followed with 15, going 4-5 from behind the arc.
Matt Franks recorded 12 points and
Gerard Carty added nine while dishing out nine assists.
Hunter returns to action on Friday, December 2 when they host Medgar Evers at 8:30 p.m.
