BOX SCORE New York, NY - For the second time this season the Hunter College men's basketball team got an overtime victory, defeating CUNYAC opponent John Jay on Tuesday night with a score of 70-66.
The Hawks improve to 5-3 overall while remaining undefeated in the conference with a 3-0 record.
Hunter put on a respectable scoring performance in the first half, shooting 44.8 percent from the floor, but still went into halftime trailing John Jay by just one point (30-29).
Amer Lukac led the Purple and Gold in the first with 12 of his eventual 18 points.
The Bloodhounds continued to lead in the second half, stretching their advantage by as much as seven points until the 10:12 mark when Hunter tied the game off a Lukac free throw.Â
Matt Franks followed that up with a three-pointer for the Hawks to give Hunter control of the game, but with 4:47 to play the Bloodhounds started to come back from a six-point deficit. John Jay went on a 7-1 run to tie the game at 59 with two minutes to play and neither team could score in the remaining to time, sending the game into overtime.
Franks and Lukac immediately got Hunter on the board, scoring a quick five points. The Bloodhounds responded with a three-pointer and then Hunter's
Gerard Carty hit four-straight free throws to give the Purple and Gold a five point lead.
With 36 seconds left to play John Jay hit another basket from behind the arc, but Carty and Franks closed out the game by converting on free throws to get the 70-66 victory.
Lukac led with 18 points and eight rebounds, while Carty and Franks each notched 14 points each.
Mamadou Sakho chipped in ten points by shooting 4-7 from the floor.
The Hawks return to the court on Friday when they face CCNY at 7 p.m.
