Women's Hoops Closes Out Regular Season with Overtime Loss

Five Players Score in Double-Figures

Jamaica, NY - Hunter College women's basketball fell in an ovetime thriller to York College on Tuesday night with a score of 94-87, closing out the regular season with a 9-16 overall record and 5-10 conference record.

Ashley Arias led the team with 23 points and 15 rebounds for her second-straight double-double. Ayanna Hudson followed with 19 points and Ashley Yu added 15. Selina Lim and Christine Patterson rounded out the double-digit scorers with 12 and 11 points respectively. The team shot 39.3 percent from the floor in comparison to York's 45.5 field goal percentage.

The Hawks started strong, jumping out to a 12-0 lead in the first quarter. The Cardinals would finally score, but would trail 23-12 by the end of the first.

It would not be until the 6:25 minute mark in the second quarter that York gained the lead, going on a 13-2 run. The Cardinals closed out the second quarter with seven-straight points, earning an 11-point lead over Hunter at halftime.

Arias got the Hawks back in the game with a 15-point performance in the third quarter alone. With the help of Hudson and Patterson, Hunter finished the quarter trailing by just two points with a score of 62-60.

Lim immediately tied the game with a steal and a fastbreak layup in the first 30 seconds of the fourth quarter and the Hawks took the lead with two free throws from Yu. The Hawks were able to maintain at least a two-point lead until a York layup tied the game with 26 seconds to play. A missed shot attempt by the Hawks in their last posession would send the game into overtime.

The Hawks struck first in overtime to lead 85-83, but two-straight Hunter turnovers would help the Cardinals score and take a 92-87 lead with 22 seconds to play. Two made free throws from York would solidify their win as Hunter fell, 94-87.

The Hawks will compete in the first-round of the CUNYAC tournament on Friday, Feb. 19.
