Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Hunter Athletics

Women's Hoops Playoff Run Ended by CSI, 66-48

Ayanna Hudson earned her ninth double-double of the season in the loss.

Staten Island, NY – The sixth seeded Hunter Hawks took on the third seeded Dolphins of the College of Staten Island in the second round of the CUNYAC Women's Basketball Championship Tournament. After falling behind by 12 in the first, Hunter was unable to erase the deficit over the next 30 minutes, ultimately falling by a final score of 66-48. The loss closes the books on the 2015-16 season and caps their record at 10-17 overall and 5-10 in CUNYAC play.

Ayanna Hudson registered her ninth double-double of the year with 10 points and tying her season high of 16 rebounds to couple her three blocks. Selina Lim was an efficient 4-6 from the floor which included draining both of her two attempts from behind the arc for 12 points and was the only other Hawk to score in double figures. Ashley Yu, Ashley Arias and Christine Patterson chipped in with eight points apiece in the loss.

Hunter found themselves down by one, 8-7 at the 5:02 mark of the first and broke a 2:39 scoring drought on both sides when Hudson connected on a jumper to go up 9-8. However, over the final 2:07, the Purple and Gold were held scoreless as they turned the ball over seven times while CSI unleashed 13 quick points to make it a 21-9 affair at the end of the quarter.

After slipping to as much as 15 points in the hole, Lim's layup stopped the bleeding and sparked the Hawks to a 9-0 run, bringing them back within five points of the higher seed. However, after being held to just three points over the final 3:21, they found themselves down 34-22 as both teams headed into the locker room for halftime.

Lim's trey to open the third brought the deficit to less than 10 points, but it's the closest the Hawks would get as once again they were halted in their tracks down the stretch of the period as the Dolphins went up by a significant margin, 52-30.

The deficit proved too much to overcome in the final 10 minutes of the game. The hole was widened to as much as 27 points but narrowed down to 18 when the final buzzer sounded, closing the books on a 66-48 affair.
