Women's Hoops Stopped by Brooklyn, 72-43

Ashley Arias and Christine Patterson led the offensive attack for the Hawks.

Brooklyn, NY - The women's basketball team took on the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College on Friday in a CUNYAC contest. After heading into halftime down by seven, they were unable to mount a comeback and struggled in the fourth quarter, resulting in a 72-43 loss. The Hawks now stand at 8-14 overall, 5-9 in CUNYAC play.

Ashley Arias led all Hawks with 12 points while Christine Patterson's .500 shooting performance from the field yielded her 12 points to compliment her five rebounds. Ayanna Hudson dished out seven assists to couple her eight points.

The first quarter was tightly contested and featured four lead changes. Hunter got on the board first thanks to back-to-back buckets from Patterson. Later in the quarter, the Miller Place, NY native followed up Arias's layup with her sixth point on a jumper to reclaim the lead. However, seven straight Bulldog points ensued before a trey from Ashley Yu stopped the bleeding at the conclusion of the first 10 minutes, making it a three point affair heading into the second.

In the second, they managed to pull within five on four occasions. Down by six with 4:52 showing, Arias made good on a three pointer to bring it back to a three-point game. However, over the final four minutes, the Purple and Gold's offense was shut out as Brooklyn entered halftime with a seven point upper hand.

Despite scoring 14 points in the third quarter, Hunter fell victim to an offensive outburst by their counterparts. After finding themselves down by five at 36-31, Brooklyn closed out the remaining seven minutes on a 20-7 run, setting the Hawks back by 18. Unable to kick-start the offense, the Purple and Gold were halted in their tracks, managing to muster just five points as the deficit ballooned to 28 by the final buzzer.

The squad returns to action on Tuesday when they host Lehman College at the Sportsplex at 5pm.
