Brooklyn, NY – The men's volleyball team kept their CUNYAC record unblemished and advanced it to 13-0 with their 3-0 win over Brooklyn College earlier this evening. After taking the first set, 25-15, they rolled 25-12 and 25-16 as they raced to the quick victory. The win pushes their overall record out to 19-7.
A total of 10 Hawks registered at least one kill and were led by
Blake Hogan and Benjamin Crusinberry with seven kills apiece.
Nicolas Sanchez took care of the setter duties with 17 assists and was impressive on the defensive end with 10 digs. As a team, the Purple and Gold dominated in all facets of the game, throwing down 50 points, slamming home 33 kills, dropping nine aces, blocking eight attempts, and tallying 31 assists and digs; all higher than their Bulldog counterparts.
Brooklyn began the first with a 5-3 lead, but it was short lived as a kill from
Matthew Zukowski sparked a 7-1 run to make it 10-6. Two more runs of three unanswered points helped Hunter to power through to the end which ended with a Crusinberry kill and a Zukowski service ace.
After Hogan started the second set with a kill,
Daniel Dobrogowski notched three straight of his own. Midway through the set, Crusinberry posted back-to-back kills to push the Hawk advantage out to a dominating 13-4. With three Bulldog errors late in the second, Hunter went on a 10-3 run to close it out, capped with a kill from Muir and giving his team a 2-0 set lead.
In similar fashion, Hunter sprinted out of the gates to a 10-2 lead early on and continued the devastating pace as shown by their 13 point lead at 18-5. Despite seven unanswered Brooklyn points, the Purple and Gold cruised through to their 25
th point on a kill from Zukowski to take the easy 3-0 lead and keep their conference mark perfect.
Hunter returns to action tomorrow, March 23 when they host the top ranked Hawks of SUNY New Paltz at home at 6pm.
