Men's Volleyball Cages Bulldogs, 3-0 in CUNYAC Quarterfinals

The Hawks will play John Jay in the semifinals on Friday

New York, NY - The #2 seeded Hunter Hawks rolled through the #7 Bulldogs of Brooklyn College earlier this evening in the quarterfinal round of the Pepsi/CUNYAC Playoffs. In dominant fashion, Hunter set the tone with a 25-9 first set victory, then continued to win the next two, 25-10 and 25-17. The Purple and Gold push their record out to 22-9 and will face #3 John Jay on Friday in the semifinals.

Benjamin Crusinberry and Benjamin Cassidy posted nine kills apiece in the win while Blake Hogan chipped in with eight of his own. Nicolas Sanchez took care of the setting duties with a game high 37 assists. The Hawks hit an impressive .639 as a team and tallied 10 blocks and 22 digs.

In the first set, Hunter threw down 11 unanswered points in the middle of a devastating 15-1 run to go up 22-6. A kill by Cassidy put the finishing touches on the opening set as the Purple and Gold cruised to a 25-9 win and going up 1-0 in the process. They opened the second with five straight points and put themselves in the same situation as the first, holding a comfortable advantage at 18-6. Closing out the set, Crusinberry scored three points with Steven Tarquinio hammering home the final kill to give his team the 2-0 lead after a 25-10 set win. In the finale, the visitors remained close through the initial five points until Hunter unraveled six unanswered points; three of which came from Cassidy. Brooklyn managed to pull within four points on several occasions with the last coming at the 19-15 mark, but it was not enough as the hosts closed out the game on a 6-2 run.

Hunter will now face the third seeded Bloodhounds of John Jay on Friday, April 8 at 4pm. Should they win, they will play later that evening at 8pm in the championship game. Friday's site of competition will be at Baruch College.
