BOX SCORE Riverdale, NY - Hunter College women's basketball fell to the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Tuesday afternoon with a score of 74-64 at the Peter Jay Sharp Center.
This is the Hawk's second-straight non-conference loss as the team drops to 7-5 overall this season.Â
The Dolphins started the game off with back-to-back three pointers, helping them to take a commanding 10-2 lead. The Hawks started to get on the board with points from
Theresa Leung,
Christine Patterson and
Selina Lim, but Mount Saint Vincent continued to lead by nine points with 2:26 left in the first quarter.
Hunter's
Edina Music hit a layup and
Ashley Yu finished off the quarter with a three-pointer to cut the Dolphin's lead to just four at the end of the first.Â
After the Dolphins jumped out to an 11-point lead in the second quarter the Hawks went on a run, sparked by Yu's jumper at the 5:57 minute mark. Hunter scored ten-straight points, including back-to-back baskets from
Phoebe Valenton, to trail Mount Saint Vincent by just one point with two minutes to play in the half. The Dolphins recovered enough to lead 35-27 at halftime.
The third quarter consisted of the Dolphins pulling away, leading by as much as 19 points but ending the quarter with a 15-point lead. The Purple and Gold were outscored 22 to 15 in the ten minutes.
Trailing by 21 points, Hunter's
Jade Aponte finished off the game with 13 points in the final eight minutes to help the Hawks cut the Dolphin's lead to just ten points as the team fell, 74-64.
Leung led the Purple and Gold with 16 points, while Aponte followed with all 13 of her points in the fourth quarter. Aponte also recorded a team-high five assists. Yu finished with 11 points for the Hawks, shooting 3-5 from behind the arc.
The Hawks shot 35.2 percent from the floor in the loss.
The squad returns to action on Friday, Jan. 6 when they host York College at 5 p.m.
