Women's Tennis Earns A Win Over St. Joseph's - Brooklyn

Hawks Win 6-3

Flushing, N.Y. - Hunter College women's tennis earned its second win of the season on Wednesday evening, defeating St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn with a score of 6-3.

With the victory the Hawks improve to 2-9 this season.

Hunter began the night with a 2-1 lead after finding wins in doubles competition. The duo of Tabitha Doris and Donise Rose got the 8-1 victory over their opponents at No. 2 doubles, before Hunter's Daniela Yakobashvili and Lakeisha Seaforth took the match at the No. 3 court.

Hunter won four out of the six singles matches with Ksenia Zevyakina leading the way with a 10-4 advantage at No. 2. Rose, Yakobashvili and Seaforth all followed, taking down their opponents at the No. 4, 5 and 6 courts, respectively.

"The team fought hard under the lights at USTA tonight," said co-head coach Corey Marsh. "The win gives us the momentum and confidence we need heading into Sunday's CUNYAC quarterfinals match against Baruch."

The squad returns to the courts on Sunday when they face the Bearcats in the first round of the conference tournament at 11:30 a.m. at Fordham University.
