BOX SCORE New York, N.Y. - Hunter College women's volleyball clinched the regular season City University of New York Athletic Conference championship on Tuesday night, defeating Baruch College in four sets with scores of 25-9, 25-13, 27-29 and 25-16.
The Hawks are first in the CUNYAC standings after finishing up conference play with an undefeated 8-0 record. The team is 25-3 overall this season for the best record in school history.
The Purple and Gold cruised to a dominating first set win, including an 8-0 run with serves from
Julia Connolly to win 25-9. Hunter started the second set right where they left off, jumping out to a 10-3 lead. The team closed out the 25-13 victory with kills from Connolly,
Miranda Hogan,
Isabelle Lawrence,
Emily Wasson,
Karina Young and
Kayshawna Richardson.
The team started the third set strong, as Wasson recorded three kills in the first five points of the game. The Bearcats gained momentum, going on an 8-1 run to lead by four points. The Hawks earned back the lead off eight straight points, featuring serves from
Cristy Pariama, but Baruch did not go away quietly, tying the set at 26. The Bearcats closed it out off Hunter errors, taking the third 29-27.
The fourth set remained close until a seven-point run gave the Hawks a commanding 21-12 advantage. The Purple and Gold finished it off by forcing several Bearcat errors, to take the fourth 25-16 and win the match, 3-1.
The Hawks hit .236 in the match, while holding Baruch to a .029 hitting percentage. Wasson led the team with 10 kills as Haiduk and Lawrence followed with nine each.
Haley Trunkett led the defensive effort with 16 digs and Hogan recorded 31 assists in the victory.
The team returns to action on Friday, October 27 when they travel to #6 regionally ranked Kean University for a 7 p.m. match.
