Women's Volleyball Continues Win Streak With Sweep Of NYU

Haiduk Leads The Team With 16 Kills

BOX SCORE New York, N.Y. - Hunter College women's volleyball continued a four-match win streak on Friday night in the defeat of New York University in three sets with scores of 25-20, 25-17 and 25-21.

The Hawks are now 15-3 this season for their best overall record at this point in the season since the 2008 campaign.

The Hawks and Violets stayed close in the first set until Hunter's Taylor Haiduk went to work, recording three kills to spark a 6-0 run for the Purple and Gold. NYU did not fall behind for long, catching up to lead by one point (18-17) before the Hawks finished out the set by outscoring the Violets 8-2 to get the win.

Hunter dominated the second set early on by jumping out to a 12-5 advantage. NYU recorded a kill but the Hawks responded with seven-straight points, featuring three kills from Julia Connolly, to lead 19-6. The Violets went on a streak of their own but the Hawks managed to hold them off, taking the second 25-17.

The Violets took the early edge in the third but struggled to shake Hunter off as the Hawks stayed within at least four points at all times. With the Hawks down 20-17, Connolly recorded a kill and Cristy Pariama tallied a service ace to help Hunter trail by just one point. NYU responded with a kill, but kills from Marlena Budna and Haiduk helped the Purple and Gold score the last six points of the set to win 25-21 and get the victory.

The Hawks hit .261 on the match and held NYU to a hitting percentage of .100. Haiduk led the team with one of her best performances of the season, recording 16 kills and a .438 hitting percentage. She also led the squad on defense with 14 digs.

Connolly followed offensively with 11 kills and Budna added eight. Haley Trunkett chipped in 13 digs, while Miranda Hogan tallied 37 assists and 13 digs of her own.

The team returns to the court on Monday, October 9 when they host a CUNYAC Tri-Match.
