BOX SCORE New York, N.Y. - Hunter College men's basketball fell to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on Tuesday in their home opener at the Hunter Sportplex with a score of 68-52.
The Hawks are now 1-4 this season after earning their first win on Sunday against FDU-Florham.
Hunter trailed by just six points at halftime after shooting 9-26 from the floor.
Amer Lukac led the team with 11 points in the first 20 minutes as USMMA led, 29-23.
The Purple and Gold opened up the second half with three-pointers from Lukac and
Matt Franks to help the Hawks cut the Mariner's lead to just three points. Hunter continued to stay close until USMMA went on a 9-0 run to lead 56-39 with 7:33 to play.
George Keener got a basket for the Hawks to break up USMMA's scoring streak, but the Mariners continued to find points, eventually taking the game, 68-52.
Lukac led the Purple and Gold with a double-double, recording 16 points and ten rebounds. Keener and Franks followed with 13 points each, as Franks went 5-5 from the field.
The squad returns to action on Friday, Dec. 1 when they host Brooklyn College at 8:30 p.m.
