Brunswick, ME - Hunter College women's basketball finished off the Bowdoin Coastal Classic with a 2-0 record after shutting down Anna Maria College with a score of 67-32 on Saturday.
The Hawks improved to an impressive 9-2 overall record with the victories this weekend and remain 3-0 in CUNYAC play. The Amcats dropped to 1-9 this season.
Jade Aponte led the offensive effort with 15 points as 13 Hawks scored in the win, totaling 34 points off the bench. The Purple and Gold started strong by jumping out to a 12-2 lead and then closing out the first quarter on a 10-0 run.
Anna Maria opened up the second with baskets, but Aponte got hot, scoring seven-straight points for Hunter to keep them in control. Five players scored for the Hawks in the remaining five minutes to give Hunter a 40-16 lead at halftime.
Hunter kept the Amcats from scoring in the third quarter and recorded 15 points of their own to make the score 55-16. They continued their dominance in the fourth to take the game 67-32.
The Hawks shot 43.8 percent from the floor, while holding Anna Maria to a 20.0 field goal percentage and forcing 26 Amcat turnovers.Â
Janine Conway followed Aponte offensively by tallying 12 points.
Theresa Leung recorded a team-high five assists and five steals.
The Hawks return to action on January 3 when they travel to CCNY for a 5 p.m. game.Â
