New York, N.Y. - Hunter College women's basketball got its fourth-straight win on Friday night by defeating John Jay College with a score of 94-33 to improve to 3-0 in conference play.
The Hawks are now 7-1 this season and remain undefeated in the CUNYAC after wins over Brooklyn College and Medgar Evers College.
Hunter started the game strong as
Edina Music,
Janine Conway,
Marlena Budna and
Ashley Yu all scored in the first 10 minutes to give the Purple and Gold a 20-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Hawks continued to play well in the second, outscoring the Bloodhounds 23-9 to make the score 43-19 at the half.
Music opened up the third quarter with a layup to spark a 14-0 run for the Hawks in the first five minutes.
Phoebe Valenton finished off the third with a basket from behind the arc to give Hunter the 76-26 lead.
Led by Music and Valenton's combined 12 points in the fourth quarter, the Hawks finished off the Bloodhounds, ending the game with a final score of 94-33.
Hunter shot 50.6 percent (39-77) from the floor in the game, holding John Jay to a 23.5 field goal percentage and forcing 22 turnovers. Aponte led the team in scoring for the second-straight game, notching 19 points and shooting 7-9 from the floor. Conway followed with 18 points and Music added 14 in her season debut. Theresa Leung dished out eight assists in the victory.
The team returns to action on Tuesday, December 12 when they host New York University at 5 p.m.
