BOX SCORE Staten Island, NY - Hunter College men's basketball maintained a lead for most of the game but eventually fell short against the College of Staten Island on Saturday with a score of 85-80.
The Hawks are now 8-14 this season and 6-7 in CUNYAC play.
Hunter had one of its best scoring performances of the season in the first half of the game, recording a 53.3 field goal percentage, while holding the Dolphins to a 38.5 percentage and zero made three-pointers.
The Hawks led 40-37 with
Amer Lukac pacing the Hawks with 13 points.
Staten Island quickly came back at the beginning of the second half, taking an immediate lead just one minute into play.
Matt Franks hit a shot from behind the arc to tie it up but the Dolphins went on a run to lead by six points at the 15 minute mark.
Hunter responded by going on a 13-2 run, featuring points from
Gio Gabbidon,
Lowell Stevens, Franks, Lukac and
Danny Fusco to take a five-point lead. With 8:17 to play the score was tied and both teams struggled to pull ahead as the lead changed four times over the next three minutes.
In the last minute of the game the Hawks trailed by just two points but were unable to pass the Dolphins as the Hawks fell, 85-80.
Five players scored in double-figures as Lukac and Fusco each tallied 16 points to lead the team, while Gabbidon followed with 15. Franks and Stevens each recorded 14 in the loss.
The team returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 7 when they host Baruch College at 7 p.m.
