BOX SCORE New York, NY - Hunter College men's basketball fell in the final seconds of the game to Baruch College on Tuesday night, 73-71.
Hunter stayed with the Hawks for most of the first half, trailing by just four points at the break.
Amer Lukac led the Hawks with 11 points as the team shot 46.2 percent from the floor.
The Purple and Gold quickly cut Baruch's lead to three points off a layup from
Gio Gabbidon to start the second half, but the Bearcats went on a 7-0 run to lead by ten.Â
With 15 minutes left to play Hunter's
Matt Franks began to dominate, scoring nine-straight points for the Hawks, but the Bearcats continued to lead by as much as 12. With 5:56 to play Lukac and Franks combined for nine points over a span of three minutes to trail by just two points.
Baruch went back up by as much as seven in the final minute of the game, but Gabbidon answered with a layup and Franks hit a huge shot from behind the arc to make the score 71-69. With ten seconds to play Gabbidon was fouled and hit both of his free throws to tie the game, but Baruch used their last possession to score a layup and get the victory, 73-71.
Lukac led the team with 24 points and 11 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season, while Franks followed with 14 points off a 6-8 scoring performance. Gabbidon added 12 points in the Hunter loss.
The Hawks return to action on Feb. 10 when they travel to CCNY for a 7 p.m. game.
