New York, N.Y. - Hunter College men's basketball got its first win in six games on Saturday afternoon, taking down Medgar Evers College with a score of 77-66 at the Hunter Sportsplex.
The Hawks improved to 9-10 this season and 6-5 in conference play, while the Cougars are now 3-9 in the CUNYAC.
With the score close in the first five minutes of the game, the Hawks began to take control when
Matt Stroud hit back-to-back three pointers to spark a 14-3 run. Up by 10 points with five minutes left in the half, the Purple and Gold closed it out by outscoring the Cougars 16-7 to lead 40-22 at the break.
Hunter continued their dominance in the second half, leading by as much as 21 points. They closed out the game with a final score of 77-66.
Matt Franks and
Amer Lukac each had one of their best performances of the season as Franks posted 20 points and 10 rebounds. Lukac recorded 17 points and a career-high 22 boards.
George Keener added 14 points for the Hawks as the team shot 45.2 percent from the floor.
The Purple and Gold return to action on January 30 when they travel to York College for a 7 p.m. game.
