New York, N.Y. - Hunter College women's volleyball finished up regular season conference play on Thursday night, defeating the College of Staten Island in three sets with scores of 25-17, 25-14 and 25-17.
The Hawks did not drop a set to a CUNYAC opponent this season, finishing first-place in the conference standings with a mark of 8-0.
The Purple and Gold took care of business early on, finding a 12-10 lead over the Dolphins in the first set and then never looking back. The Hawks took advantage of several CSI errors, while Hunter's
Isabelle Lawrence notched two kills in the final points to take the first, 25-17.
Hunter continued to dominate in the second set, finding a 12-2 lead off nine-straight serves from
Mariam Ouattara, as well as kills from
Marlena Budna,
Kayshawna Richardson and Lawrence. The team finished off the Dolphins with a score of 25-14 in the second.
The Hawks once again got the early edge in the third set as
Taylor Haiduk, Ouattara and Budna each scored points for an 8-3 lead. Two service aces from
Vanessa Sanchez made the score 24-13 and a CSI service error allowed Hunter the eventual 24-17 victory to sweep the match.
Budna led the team with 10 kills and a .429 hitting percentage, while Richardson and Haiduk added eight kills each. Haiduk registered a team-high 11 digs and
Miranda Hogan earned 21 assists in the win.
The team returns to action on Saturday, October 20 when they travel to New York University for a 1 p.m. match.
