Bronx, N.Y. - Hunter College men's soccer fell to Lehman College on Wednesday night in the quarterfinal round of the CUNYAC Championships, tying them 3-3 at the end of overtime, but dropping the game in penalty kicks.
The Hawks end the season after taking a 2-0 lead in the game, with
Adam Pine and
Blaise Enama registering Hunter goals in the first half. The Lightning scored a goal at the beginning of the second half to trail by just one and then tied it up with 15 minutes to play. The Hawks seemed to be in control of the game when
Michael Merlo hit a penalty kick to give the Purple and Gold a 3-2 lead.
The Lightning responded with another goal at the 83:32 minute mark to send it into overtime. Neither team would score in the two ten-minute periods, forcing a shoot-out. The Hawks missed on their third attempt, while Lehman made all five to get the victory.
The team graduates five seniors, including four-year player and captain
Michael Merlo, captain Jonathan Bautista, three-year player
William Benitez,
Matthew Binshtok and
Chris Perales.
