New York, N.Y. - Hunter College women's basketball dropped a game to Western Connecticut State University on Tuesday night, falling behind in the second half to be eventually outscored, 98-87 at the Hunter Sportsplex.
The Hawks are now 1-3 this season, getting a lone win over St. Joseph's College L.I. last week.
Turnovers plagued both teams, but was a huge contributor in the Hunter loss as the Hawks scored a season-high of 87 points. The Purple and Gold led the Colonials at halftime, 48-47, but immediately fell behind in the third quarter as WCSU went on a huge run to lead by 27 points going into the fourth.
In the last ten minutes of the game the Hawks managed to cut the lead to just nine points with two minutes to play, but ran out of time before catching up.
Jade Aponte and
Janine Conway combined for 52 of Hunter's points, recording 26 apiece in the loss.
Nicole Ballin added 12, shooting 4-4 from the floor and
Phoebe Valenton chipped in ten points. Conway led the team on the boards, tallying 11 for a double-double.
The team returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 27th when they host USMMA at 6 p.m.
