BOX SCORE Amherst, MA. - Hunter College men's basketball dropped a non-conference game to Amherst College on Sunday afternoon, falling with a final score of 96-41.
Poor shooting and turnovers plagued the Hawks in the loss as they recorded 31 turnovers which allowed the Mammoths to turn into 30 points.
The Purple and Gold stayed close to Amherst for most of the first half, but the Mammoths' defense proved to be too much as the Hawks struggled to score. Amherst stopped the Hawks from scoring in the last five minutes of the first half to go into halftime with a 48-19 lead.
The Hunter drought finally ended in the second when
Danny Fusco hit a layup, but the Hawks were still unable to stop the Mammoths from making baskets. Amherst went on a 21-4 run to make the score 83-31 and were able to respond with points every time the Hawks scored.Â
The Hawks found some points off the bench in the final minutes but were unable to shut down the Mammoths, falling 96-41.
George Keener led the squad with nine points, while
Karon Blackwell and
Melvin Collins each scored six.
The team returns to the court on January 3 when they travel to Brooklyn College for a 7:15 p.m. game.
