Staten Island, N.Y. - Hunter College women's basketball dropped its first game in over two weeks, falling to the College of Staten Island with a score of 63-47.
The Hawks are now 16-6 overall and 9-4 in the CUNYACÂ to sit at third place. The Dolphins improved to 11-2 for second in the conference standings.
Both teams struggled to make baskets, but the Hawks recorded just 12 points in the first two quarters, shooting 16.1 percent from the field. CSI didn't get too far ahead, leading at halftime with 25 points but also recording a low field goal percentage of 27.3.
Hunter came back to life in the third quarter, scoring 19 points in the 10 minutes to trail by 15 going into the fourth. The Dolphins went up by as much as 18 in the fourth quarter, but a three-pointer from
Theresa Leung helped close the gap to 12 points with two minutes to play. Time ran out too soon for the Purple and Gold, who eventually fell 63-47.
Ashley Arias led Hunter with nine points and
Christine Patterson followed with eight points and a team-high eight rebounds. The Hawks forced 27 Dolphin errors and tallied 15 steals in the loss.
The team returns to action on Thursday, February 8 when they face Baruch College in the "Battle of Lexington," slated for 6 p.m.
