Men's Soccer Stumbles At New Jersey City

Hawks Fall With A Score of 1-0

Jersey City, N.J. - Hunter College men's soccer fell to New Jersey City University on Sunday in just their second game of the season. The Hawks dropped the tightly contested game with a score of 1-0.

The Purple and Gold were the first team to get a statistic on the board as freshman Blaise Enama took shot just one minute into the contest that went over the goal. Adam Pine managed a corner kick at the 8:47 minute mark and Jonathan Bautista followed that up with a shot on goal, saved by the Knights' keeper.

With 13 minutes on the clock in the first half, NJCU chipped in a goal to take a 1-0 lead over Hunter. Pine recorded two more corner kicks in the remaining minutes of the half but the Hawks continued to trail by one goal.

The Knights tallied three shots in the first 20 minutes of the second half when Hunter's William Benitez responded with a shot on goal at the 66 minute mark. The Hawks held the Knights to one goal, but could not manage to convert on any shots of their own to eventually fall 1-0.

The Purple and Gold were outshot just 10 to nine in the loss, while each team recorded three shots on goal. Goalkeeper Noah Dougherty recorded two saves in his second outing of the season.

The team returns to action on September 5 when they travel to Montclair State University for a 5 p.m. match.
