Hawks Fall Behind In Fourth Quarter

New York, N.Y. - Hunter College women's basketball gave up a lead in the fourth quarter on Monday afternoon, eventually falling to non-conference opponent The College of New Jersey by just one point with a score of 60-59.

The Hawks had a chance to get the win in the last possession of the game, but fell up short against the Lions to drop to 10-9 overall this season.

The Purple and Gold came out with the hot shooting hand to take a 16-7 lead with contributions from Christine Patterson, Janine Conway, Theresa Leung and Selina Lim. The team continued to score in the second quarter, going up by as much as 10 points before going into halftime with a 34-28 advantage.

With the Hawks up by 13 in the third, the Lions began a comeback, scoring eight-straight points to end the quarter. TCNJ finally tied it up with 5:05 to play in the game but did not manage to take a lead until the 1:05 minute mark. Leading by four with 14 seconds on the clock, Leung hit a three and then Ashley Arias immediately forced a turnover to get the ball back. A last second shot would not go in for the Hawks as they fell, 60-59.

Conway led with 17 points, seven rebounds and six steals in the loss. Aponte finished with 12 points and Leung added 11.

The team returns to the court on Friday, January 25 when they host Brooklyn College at 5 p.m.
