Brooklyn, NY - It took just three quick sets over Medgar Evers earlier this evening for the women's volleyball team to stamp their fourth straight season without a loss in CUNYAC play. The Hawks held the hosts to under 10 points in each set as they cruised to their seventh straight conference victory, 25-5, 25-9, 25-8.
The Purple and Gold (12-15, 7-0 CUNYAC) dominated nearly every aspect of the game. They hit .358 for the game as a team and hammered home 38 kills while the hosts managed just five.
Isabelle Lawrence,
Mariam Ouattara and
Curran Murray led the way with seven kills apiece while
Pearl Mensah and
Ariana Silva tallied six each. Ten Hawks recorded at least one dig with Sunghee Ho earning a team high seven.
Beverly Wong accounted for five of her team's 18 service aces and 19 of their 35 assists.
Hunter began the first with a 6-0 run and then followed it up with a crippling 13 unanswered points to set the stage, 19-2. Down the stretch, Lawrence, Pearl, a host attack error and an ace from Cho put the finishing touches on a 25-8 set. In the second, Hunter once again unleashed 10 unanswered points that proved to be the demise of the Cougars. They closed it out with a 7-1 run, taking the second set, 25-9. The third and final played out like the previous two. With a commanding 12-3 lead, Hunter cruised in the end and scored the final five points in a row with Wong serving up three aces in a row.
With the win, Hunter secures the #1 seed in the CUNYAC Championship Tournament. Up next, the squad will travel to Babson Park, MA to take on the #17 ranked Babson Beavers at 7pm on Friday, November 1. They will continue their Massachusetts road trip the following day with a tri-match against Colby and #24 Tufts to cap the regular season.
