Women's Volleyball Caps Season at NCAA's, 3-1 to #7 Trinity (TX)

Hunter concludes their season with a 15-18 record

Newport News, VA- The Hunter College women's volleyball season came to a close tonight with a tough 3-1 loss to #7 Trinity (TX). The hawks finish the season with a record of 15-18 after going undefeated in the CUNYAC, and winning their 6th straight conference championship.

The offense was led by Kylie Hurst, Mariam Ouattara and Kendra Moore, each of whom registered nine kills. Sunghee Cho accounted for 16 digs to lead the team while Vanessa Sanchez had three service aces. Justine Smith had the setting duties on the night and tallied a game high 31 assists.

The first set was a back and forth battle with Trinity eventually edging ahead 13-9. However, they went on a 12-5 run to close out the first set, 14-25. The second set played out similar with the Hawks hanging around until the 18-15 mark when the Tigers ripped off seven unanswered points to go up 2-0 with a set win of 25-15.

The third set was a different story with the Purple and Gold going ahead 6-2 early on. The Tigers hung around and came back to take a 14-11 lead, but a kill from Moore sparked an 8-2 run. However, Trinity once again fought back and found themselves within one point at 23-24. It was a different ending this time around after Ouattara hammered home the 25th point to put her team on the board.

In the fifth, Trinity hit .571 as a team and tallied 17 kills with just two errors on 29 attempts. It proved to be too much to handle as an 11-1 Tiger run put the Hawks in too deep of a hole to come out of. The result was a Trinity third set wih, 25-10 and a close to the women's volleyball season.
