New York, NY – The men's basketball team took on the Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's-Long Island earlier this evening in a non-conference contest. The Hawks struggled from the field and fell by a score of 82-49 as they continue to search for the first win of the season and slipping to 0-4.
Despite scoring contributions from 10 different players, the Purple and Gold were unable to find their stroke from behind the arc, going 3-24.
George Keener had 10 points while both
Jonah Bevacqua and
Luka Jakic chipped in with eight points apiece
Of the Hawk's 23 first half points, 11 of them came from the charity stripe. Things got off to a rocky start after the team missed on their first eight attempts until Keener's fastbreak layup broke the five minute silence. They got to within two points of the Golden Eagles, but allowed a 12-1 run to set them back by 13. Heading into halftime, the hosts trailed 34-23.
Despite shooting better in the second half, over 30 percent from the field, and making three from down town, the Hawks' 26 points were unable to overcome the 11-point deficit from halftime and the 48 point second half posted by their challengers.
The squad will be back in action on Tuesday, November 26 when they host SUNY Maritime in the second game of a four-game home stretch. Tip off is slated for a 6pm start.
