Women's Hoops Stumbles Against TCNJ, 73-49

Janine Conway was the game-high scorer with 25 points.

Ewing, NJ – The women's basketball team took on the Lions of the College of New Jersey on Friday in a non-conference contest. Despite improving their offensive output each quarter, the Hawks fell into an eight-point hole after the first 10 minutes and were unable to recover, resulting in a 73-49 loss. They slip to 1-3 overall.

Janine Conway was the game-high scorer with 25 points while Theresa Leung was the only other Hawk in double figures with 11 points. Morgan Gress chipped in with a little bit of everything, grabbing seven boards, dishing out two assists, blocking one shot and adding three points. As a team, the Purple and Gold struggled from the floor, especially from deep and connecting on just four of 30 from behind the arc and were out-rebounded, 54-32.

Hunter missed their first four shots from the field and fell behind by seven. They made it a two-point affair at 11-9 with 3:32 showing on the clock, but went cold over the final minutes, going 0-4 and falling behind 17-9 at the conclusion of the first quarter.

A 9-3 Lion run to open the initial 6:29 of the second resulted in Hunter trailing by 14. The deficit grew to as much as 15, but closed the quarter on back-to-back triples from Leung and Kristina Krslovic and a big block from Gress to cut the deficit to nine at the half, 30-21.

The offensive struggles continued through the second half. The scoring differential increased to as much as 26 points at its peak, proving too much to overcome.  Head Coach John Garrett and his squad look to get back on track when they tip off against Mount Saint Mary College on Tuesday, November 26. The non-conference matchup will start at 7pm.
