The Hunter College Women's Basketball team dropped a tough non conference game to NYU with a final score of 55-49. The loss drops Hunter to 4-5 overall, while NYU improves to 8-1 overall.
In the first quarter both teams struggled to score in the early minutes and then NYU opened up with a 15-0 run, the first quarter wrapped up 18-4. The Hawks battled back and cut the lead in half at the end of the first half going into the locker room down 28-20. The second half was a tight game the entire way as Hunter took their first lead of the game at 43-42 after a
Theresa Leung 3 pointer with 6:28 left in the game. NYU responded with a 3 of their own, and never gave up the lead again.
The Hawks held NYU to 55 points and 28.8% shooting from the field, both are season lows for the Violets. Hunter was led by senior captain
Theresa Leung's 19 points, shooting 7-15 from the field, and 5-8 from three, she also had 5 rebounds in her 36 minutes of action.
Janine Conway continued her double digit scoring trend with 14 points, 2 blocks and 2 steals to go along with 6 rebounds. Senior
Phoebe Valenton chipped in 12 points, and
Maya Thompson paced the hawks with 10 rebounds and 3 blocks!
Hunter goes into finals week and returns to the court after the holidays with a home game on January 2nd, ant 2pm!
