New York, N.Y. - Hunter College softball got two wins in its CUNYAC opener on Wednesday, defeating York College in a doubleheader with scores of 21-0 and 16-2.
The Hawks improved to 2-1 this season, while the Cardinals went to 0-4.
In the first win of the day the Purple and Gold started by scoring eight runs in the first inning.
Brittney Salvador put up the first runs for the Hawks with a single up the middle for two RBI's.
Samantha Molloy,
Gianna Raimondi,
Kayla Pilotti and
Erin Schweers all contributed to Hunter's 8-0 score at the end of the inning.
Molloy opened up the second inning with a home run, allowing two other players to score and giving the Hawks an 11-0 advantage.
The Hawks continued to find runs in the remaining innings, eventually getting the 21-0 victory. Eleven players found hits for Hunter, with
Colleen McCoy, Salvador and Molloy leading the way with three each.
Alana Vezza added two in the win.
Leanna Donahue got the win and the shut out in the circle.
In the second game of the day, Salvador was once again the first player to put Hunter points on the board, getting a single to give the Hawks the first run. Molloy,
Dilailah Gomez and Pilotti all found RBI's as the Purple and Gold went into the second inning with a 4-0 edge. Hunter had a big second, scoring seven runs, while McCoy and Schweers each had doubles.
Despite allowing two runs scored from the Cardinals in the third, the Hawks finished it off with five more runs to get the 16-2 win. Schweers led the team with four hits, while Gomez and Pilotti each posted three RBI's.
Diana Ferreira got the victory as pitcher.
The team returns to action on March 26 when they travel to Montclair State University.
