New York, NY – The Hawks combined for 25 hits in two games against Baruch and managed to shut out the Bearcats in both contests as they won 13-0 and 12-0.
Game 1
There were 10 players for the Purple and Gold that registered at least one hit. Among them was
Brittney Salvador who filled the stat sheet with her 2-3 effort that included a single, a home run, three RBI and a stolen base. As a team, the Hawks tallied 12 stolen bases with six of them coming from
Gianna Raimondi and
Colleen McCoy with three apiece.
Leanna Donahue tossed five shutout innings in the win and struck out five in the process.
The Hawks put up two runs in both the second and third innings but used a nine-run fourth to ultimately seal the deal. In the fourth, McCoy had an RBI double and then stole home two batters later while Salvador had a two RBI home run to make it an 8-0 affair. Back-to-back doubles from
Samantha Molloy and
Allyson Bricker, followed up by a Donahue single extended the lead to 11-0.
Dilailah Gomez capped the inning with an RBI single and then scored on an error by the Bearcat catcher.
Donahue allowed just one hit all game while her defense took care of the rest, registering 12 putouts without an error.
Game 2
Erin Schweers,
Maria Laboy and
Caroline Bibula each had multiple hit games while
Nicole Guzzone and Bricker had an evens split of six RBI. Guzzone tossed five complete innings and allowed just two hits while fanning six and walking one.
The Hawks wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, putting up four runs on three hits in the first inning. With two outs, Bricker smacked a two RBI single to put runners on first and third. Raimondi followed that up with an RBI single to score
Alana Vezza to cap the four-run inning.
With two on and one out in the second, Hunter scored on a wild ball four pitch to extend the lead to five. Molloy singled to drive in Bibula and then an error on Baruch's third baseman allowed Vezza to score her second run of the game, putting the score at 7-0.
Adding another run in the third, the Hawks once again tallied four runs in the fourth on three hits and two errors, ultimately putting the game out of reach.
The Hunter softball team is back in action on Saturday, March 27 when they host the College of New Rochelle in their final game of the regular season. The twinbill will be played at Field #12 on Randall's Island with first pitch slated for 12pm.
