New York, NY- Hunter College men's volleyball kicked off conference play on President's Day traveling to York College for a CUNYAC Tri-Match. The Hawks swept York College and Medgar Evers in three sets each to improve to 2-0 in the league.
The Hawks are now 9-4 overall this season.
The Purple and Gold started the day with a three-set win over York which featured scores of 25-12, 25-12 and 25-7. Hunter recorded a .431 hitting percentage in the victory, while holding the Cardinals to a negative mark.
A trio of Hawks tied for the team lead at
Jben Mui,
Aryaan Meer and
Daniel Kim all registered eight kills.
Raymond Yu set a career high for assist with 33 to go along with seven digs. Hunter registered 7 aces with Kim earning four and
David Lou adding another two.
Klinger Ribeiro led the purple and gold defensively with seven digs.
The day was completed with a three-set rout of previously undefeated Medgar Evers in the second match as the Hawks collected the win with scores of 25-11, 25-19 and 25-13. Hunter hit just .253 in the match but managed to shut down the offense of the Cougars forcing them into 24 hitting errors.
Quendrim Shala and
Cyrus De Guzman led the way for the Hawks offensively with 10 kills each.
Christian Maisonet added seven kills and two service aces in just two sets of play.
Alec Helford had the setting duties for the match and registered 35 assists in the win.
Chris Scandole and
Blake Hogan were excellent defensively for the purple and gold combining for 13 digs in the match.
The team will look to stay undefeated at home Thursday, February 20
th at 6pm when they host #8 Rutgers-Newark.
