New York, NY – The #4 men's basketball team was ousted from the CUNYAC Tournament earlier this afternoon after falling to #5 Brooklyn College in the quarterfinals by a score of 67-58.
The Hawks had three score in the double figures and were led by
Gio Gabbidon with 22 points; his second straight game with as many points. He complimented his offensive output with 10 rebounds to complete the double-double. Teammate Jonah Bevaqua also registered a double-double with 10 boards and 14 points while
George Keener added 10 points and eight boards.
Hunter led for just over a minute in the early stages of the half until falling behind by six thanks to Brooklyn's Anthony McClean who knocked down back-to-back three pointers. The Purple and Gold fell behind by as much by eight points but stayed within striking distance until eventually knotting the game at 28 and then going ahead by one, courtesy of a 6-0 run capped by a trey from Gabbidon. However, they were held scoreless over the final 1:36 and eventually headed into halftime down 33-30.
The Hawks suffered early struggles in the half, managing just two points in the opening 3:57 which resulted in a nine point deficit. They eventually fell into a 15 point hole on two separate occasions but managed to pull within six with just under five minutes left to play. However, it was as close as they would get. Hunter managed just three more field goals down the stretch as the final buzzer sounded with the score reading 67-58 in the guest's favor.
