New York, NY - The women's basketball team got back to their winning ways on Thursday evening after coming away with a dominant 80-45 victory over Baruch College in the CUNYAC matchup.
There were four Hunter (12-9, 8-3 CUNYAC) players who registered double digit points in the lopsided affair. Led by
Janine Conway's game high 22 points in 30 minutes of action.
Kristina Krslovic added 15 points while
Theresa Leung chipped in with 12 points to go along with 8 assist.
Maya Thompson had a double-double scoring 10 points while corralling 11 rebounds.
As a team, the Purple and Gold shot an impressive 46.3 percent from the field including going 11-22 from downtown. The Hawks defense was the difference in the game, forcing 19 turnovers and holding Baruch to under 20 percent from the field. Additionally, they won the battle on the boards by an +5 rebound margin.
The first quarter was a back and forth affair with Hunter scoring the first six points of the contest. A
Phoebe Valenton layup put Hunter ahead 14-12 at the end of the first quarter.
The purple and gold started to command the game in the second quarter scoring the first eight points capped by a layup by Thompson, Hunter held a double digit lead at 22-12. A jumper by Madison Laselle ended the first half scoring with Hunter up by a score of 34-23.
The purple and gold effectively put the game away in the third outscoring the home team 27-12 in the period to earn a commanding 26 point lead heading into the final quarter. The fourth quarter was much of the same as Hunter continued to score efficiently while holding the Bearcats to only 10 points. A basket by
Kimberly Lau ended the scoring to give Hunter it's largest lead of the game at 80-45.
Up next, the Hawks return to action on Monday, Febuary 10th when they host Lehaman college in another CUNYAC matchup. Hunter defeated Lehman 82-58 last month. Tip-off is slated for 5pm at the Hunter College Sportsplex.
