New York- The no. 4 seeded Hunter College men's soccer team was upset by no. 5 Brooklyn College in the first round of conference playoffs on Wednesday afternoon.
The Hawks finish their season with a 4-10 overall record and at .500 (4-4) for CUNYAC play after the 1-0 loss to Brooklyn (5-10, 5-3 CUNYAC). Out of the gate, Hunter showed energy as
Blaise Enama took the first shot just 29 seconds in on a breakaway. The Bulldogs would answer with attempts of their own only for keeper,
Antony Simos, to grab three saves. Each team would log ten shots in the first half but neither was able to get on the board as the period came and went in a 0-0 stalemate.
The two teams have been historically even matched, with a 5-5 record since their first time meeting in 2008 and it showed as an exchange of shots ensued in the second half. Brooklyn saw success in the 59th minute of play, netting the game's lone goal. The Hawks would make three more attempts in the period but were unable to find the back of the net and ultimately fell to the Bulldogs, 1-0.
Overall, the Hawks were out shot by Brooklyn 19-13 with nine and four on goal, respectively. Simos recorded eight saves in the game, to finish the season with a 4-10 record in the net. First team All-Conference selection,
Blaise Enama, led the team with five shots, followed by
Mikael Young-Malka with four.
Sammy Ahmed and
Bradley Espejo also logged shots in the post-season matchup.
