Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Hunter Athletics

Men’s Basketball Stifled by Mount Saint Vincent.

The Hawks were unable to hit their stride from the get-go

Riverdale, NY – After a hot start in their season opener, the men's basketball suffered a 104-70 loss earlier this evening against the College of Mount Saint Vincent. In defeat, Hunter moves to 1-1 on the year with their home opener coming up this Friday evening.

Cormac Reilly was the Hawk's leading scorer with 12 points while Jeremy Montrose, Luka Jakic and Casey Meyers each chipped in with nine apiece. Barrett Lowe grabbed eight boards on the defensive end in 17 minutes of action while collectively, the team snagged 25 offensive rebounds to generate second chance opportunities.

The Purple and Gold hit a cold streak after the 16:34 mark when Luka Jakic hit a layup. From there, they went cold over the ensuing 3:23 and missed on their seven attempts from the floor and turned the ball over six times, resulting in a 17 point deficit. At the peak, Hunter faced a 23 point uphill battle in the first but managed to chop it down to 18 by halftime.

The team was unable to find their stroke in the second half, connecting on just 13 field goals with four of them from behind the arc. Joash Nyarko made good on a layup with 9:12 left to play in the game which cut the deficit back down to 18, but it was as close as they would get. The hosts ballooned the lead to over 30 points to put the game out of reach and closing with a final score of 104-70.

The Hawks return to the court on Friday, November 12 when they host the College at Old Westbury in their first home game since February 22, 2020.
